A new series of work has been inspired from the Kardo Findlater www.kfcollection.co.uk collection at 22 Portsea Place, a private Georgian House that was the London home of the late Kardo Sessoeffs who dedicated their lives to collecting and researching works of art. Housing a collection of over 3000 works and objects from across the globe, it has now become a tribute to their passion and creativity.
As the recent 'artist in residence' at 22 Portsea Place Stewart has interpreted a new series of abstract paintings based on this historic collection.
He is now working on an exciting collection of marine abstracts inspired by the dramatic seascapes and wide open landscapes of the New Forest and surrounding coastline.
This little group of abstract paintings has been inspired by the local coastline of Lymington and Christchurch Bay.
Layers of brightly coloured paint washed away by the sea and battered by the waves. The streaking effect of rusted iron and scrubbing of nets across marine timbers. Faded colours adjusted by tide and time, richly provided by both beach huts and the local fishing fleet.
The layering of acrylic paint, built up and scraped down, communicate a raw power and rough texture capturing just a breath of sea air.
